Sled or toboggan?

The term toboggan and the
The term "sled" is a topic that could certainly be discussed at length.

Sledding categories

I personally divide "sledding" into two categories :

Into rigid and movable toboggans/sleds.

The difference is not always in the appearance, but in the way the toboggan is driven .
A rigid sled (which is rigid in itself and cannot be moved) is steered differently than a movable toboggan (which is usually rubber-mounted and can be moved when pressure is applied).

You can find out how to steer a toboggan/sled in the Toboggan Guide.

  • sports sled

...are suitable for sporty tobogganers who also like to practice their sport in a competitive manner (=regulated sports equipment) - on snow and ice.

  • Touring toboggan

…are for passionate (advanced) tobogganers who want more than just a thrilling ride down a hill. A steerable touring toboggan makes cornering truly enjoyable!

  • Leisure toboggan

…are perfect for tobogganing fun and affordable leisure activities. Maintaining a straight line becomes more difficult at higher speeds and on curves.

  • Fun and slide equipment

… are ideally suited for the toboggan run - where there is plenty of space and no danger of impact, “not suitable for the toboggan run”.
